Free Software For The Trial Tech
Continuing our cheap-gear series, or in this case, free. It’s always nice when good things don’t cost anything. Here are some favorites.
- Notepad++ — everyone needs a better text editor. Free and open source.
- GIMP — the cost of Photoshop getting you down? Give GIMP a try.
- 7-Zip — my go-to compression tool for years. Supports many compression formats and can encrypt archives too, and it’s noticeably faster than Windows’ built-in zip tool.
- Blender — free, open-source 3D software. The only tool on this list I haven’t personally used yet.
- TreeComp — a free directory-tree syncer, great for keeping case backups up to date.
- Virtual CloneDrive — a solid option for mounting .iso image files on Windows 7 (Windows 8 and 8.1 have a built-in .iso mounter).
